New ferry deep-water port. Technical decision.
Building of the new ferry deep-water port for availability of cargo operations of railway steamers such as m.v.“Geroi Shipki” in the area of eastern Crimea for increase efficiency of all ferry transportation was greatly restricted by peculiarities of the region itself.
First, restricts as per depths. At accommodation of ferryboats till 7.4 meters only some areas provided the safe approaches. Second, - landscape and city restrictions did not permit to develop normal railway - ferry network. After careful analysis of situation it was considered to make terminal in the territory of Kerch Sea-Trade port in the area of 3-4 berths.
The prolonged maintenance of the reconstructed berths after Second World War, their instability and partial damage caused the in necessity to design and build the additional Hydrotechnik engineering constructions which fulfil at the same time the reinforcing part of the available berths and supports for vessels mooring that, by the way, are the greatest railway ferries in the world . The construction is carried out in a concrete bodies installed on steel piles and rigidly connected with berths. Three bodies are the side supports, one is the support of ferry bridge and aft support. The general arrangements of supports is such that any ferryboat can moor to this complex., that is ferryboats “Geroi Shipki” and ferryboats such as “St Petersburg” .
The analysis of freight flow brought to solution to carry out the most economical ferry single-way bridge with length 6 m. Such bridge is able to perform to roll on-roll off carriages on the central way of ferryboat with the following their distribution on decks. The bridge construction enables to treat the vessel in all range of operating draughts. Moreover, the bridge allows to load on vessel and unload the wheel equipment. The bridge has a winch electric drive, simple and secure in maintenance. The construction of bridge is carried out in Shipbuilding Yard at Kiliya. During study of issues if this complex there were found out the existing problems connected with railway connection. The greatest width of port territory, the developed network of operating lines, the necessity of the continuous movement of carriages in the territory required the thorough study, and as a result it was carried out the reconstruction of port tracks with extension of new branches connecting ferry with the existing network for realization of all loading/unloading technology according to railway requirements, custom and border services.
For execution of reconstruction it was applied a new, specially developed facilities- railway switces and dead track crossings.
All works as per designing, fabrication of equipment and construction were successfully realized by native enterprises. It is necessary to note that all works for complex construction were realized within the shortest term. Thus, the building itself- took only one and a half month.
On 21 October 2007 m.v. “Geroi Shipki” arrived in port Kerch for the first time and has been successfully moored on ferry complex. The bridge was lowered, the ways were connected. The complex is ready for use.
